Udo kramer graduated from the prestigious film school hff potsdam babelsberg in 2005. He has since designed sixteen german and international feature films and tv series.
Beginning his career as a production designer on detlev buck’s “tough enough”, a powerful and gripping film about berlin subculture. For buck, he also designed the 3d movie adaptation of daniel kehlmann’s bestselling novel, “measuring the world” which earned kramer his first nomination for best production design from the german film awards in 2011.
Kramer designed “the physician”, starring ben kingsley and tom payne, for director philipp stölzl, with whom he previously worked on “young goethe in love” as well as the period mountain drama “north face”. All three films earned kramer nominations of the german film award for best production design. He also designed the international production “into the white”, a fact-based world war ii character drama about a group of british and german soldiers who find themselves stranded in the norwegian wilderness after an aircraft battle.
His first collaboration with director marjane satrapi was her live action movie “chicken with plums”, a visually stunning story about famous violinist nasser ali khan, who wanted to die after his violin broke. They continued to work together when he designed “the voices”, a genre-bending tale she directed starring ryan reynolds, gemma arterton and jacki weaver.
In 2015/16 kramer designed "point break" a remake of kathryn bigelow's 1991 cult classic. "Point break" was directed by ericson core and shot in nine countries on four continents. It pushes the boundaries of extrem sport and stunt action to new limits.
His latest work is the netflix original series „dark“, a family saga with supernatural twist. It is directed by bo baran odar and will debut on netflix 1st December 2017.
Kramer lives in berlin, germany.
